Work Placement Success Leads to Job Offer
Plastering student, Bradley McKee, impressed so much on his work experience placement at builders’ merchants Howarth Timber that he has been offered a part time job with the company.
Completing a work placement is a requirement of the course, giving students the opportunity to experience the type of employability skills needed to succeed in the industry. After a successful interview with the manager, Bradley was invited to spend a week at the Corby based firm.
“I was pretty nervous about the interview, but they were very good and made me feel welcome. The placement went really well and I was able to try lots of things, like working in the stock room learning about the range of products, and also working on the store floor dealing with customers.
I made sure I spoke to the staff and took in as much as I could. The manager gave me some good feedback at the end of the week, so I thought I would ask about the chance of any part time work and he said he would look into it. A few days later got a phone call offering me a part time job that I could fit around my course, which is great.”
Plastering Tutor, Tim Smith, said:
“Bradley is, and has always been, a committed learner who is determined to gain his qualification whilst gaining real work experience, so we are really pleased for him.”
