Unconditional University Offer to 6a Academy Student

09.01.2015

harry toselandHarry Toseland is currently studying A Levels in English Literature and Language, History and Sociology at Tresham’s 6A Sixth Form Academy.  His dedication and hard work has resulted in him securing an unconditional offer to study History at the University of East Anglia.  Harry is predicted to achieve 2 A’s and a B this summer after his final exams.

This is what Harry had to say about this fantastic achievement and his time studying at Tresham:

After completing my GCSE’s at Lodge Park Academy in Corby, I decided to study A Levels at Tresham.  I had attended an open evening at the college and was really impressed with the 6a Academy, it had a very purposeful feel about it and a personal approach that aimed to get the most from students.

Another reason that I wanted to study at the college, rather than remain at school, was that it offered a middle ground between school and university.  I have benefited from a more independent approach to studying at Tresham where I have had to take responsibility for my own progression.  If I had stayed at school, I think the idea of studying at university would be even more daunting.

History has always been a subject that I have enjoyed and that has interested me, so it has been a natural path to study the subject at Degree level. Initially I was keen to gain a place at Manchester University, but after attending an open day I was left uninspired by the lecture about the course. This was not the case when I visited the University of East Anglia, the course came across really well and the campus really appealed to me.

The university application process went quite smoothly. The main part to get right is the personal statement; my first attempt wasn’t great, but with the support and guidance from my tutors and Head of School, Clare King, I was able to go back and make it stand out.

For those looking for a new challenge, where they are outside of the familiarity of school, I would definitely recommend studying at Tresham. I am really pleased that I made the right decision.
