U21’s Continue to Impress with Win at Ipswich
Tresham’s Football Academy players, Ade Yusuff, 19, and Mawete Nkunga, 19, have both impressed the management at Ipswich Town FC to continue training with the Championship Club for another week
Two students from Tresham’s Football Academy played for Ipswich Town’s U21 side on Monday 25th February as part of a strong squad which included 1st team players Scott Loach, Patrick Kisnorbo, Frank Nouble, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Adam Drury and Ashley Mings.
The duo, who currently study at Tresham as part of the colleges specialist provision for young football players wanting to gain vocational qualifications alongside professional training, were asked to play for Ipswich’s U21 Development Squad vs Colchester after impressing scouts at an initial two day visit to the club for training and feedback.
Both players aged 19 impressed Mark Kennedy, Ipswich Town U21 Coach before catching the eye of the club’s Manager, Mick McCarthy, and his Assistant Terry Connor whilst playing in a specially arranged friendly last week.
Ade and Mawete were invited to stay at Ipswich Town to continue their training with the club and play as part of the clubs Development League U21 game vs Colchester United at the clubs Portman Road Stadium.
Both players started the game and held their own in a thrilling 4-3 victory for Ipswich Town. Following their performance they have been asked to stay and train with the club until the beginning of March with a view to playing in the clubs next U21 fixture on Saturday 2nd March away at QPR.
Tresham’s Football Academy is recruiting now for its U19 squad starting in August 2013. Trials will be held on Friday 12th April at Tresham College Of Further and Higher Education, Oakley Road, Corby, NN17 1NE.
