20.11.2013

Skills Show 1

This year Tresham exhibited at The Skills Show 2013 from the 14th– 16th November 2013. The Skills Show is a great event and has stands located around Showcases, Spotlight areas, Competitions and Have a Go activities. The Skills Show, a legacy event from WorldSkills London 2011, was first hosted in November 2012 at the NEC Birmingham, and is the largest careers and skills event in the country, providing an opportunity to inspire and spark the ambitions of 75,000 visitors. Over the three days 1000 plus attendees visited Tresham’s stand. We attend the Skills Show in order to show what Tresham has to offer, this year was no different with different schools offering practical activities throughout the week.

On the first day of The Skills Show our Motor Vehicle department, along with Snap On Tools, carried out vehicle diagnostic testing on electrical systems. The diagnostic equipment was hand held and used simulation diagnostic boards that replicate engine functions which gave attendees the opportunity to see how the equipment would be used within the industry.

Friday saw our BTEC Forensic Science students simulate a crime scene following a murder. Students and staff carried out crime scene photography, fingerprinting and statement collection as part of the activity which showcased the fantastic forensic science provision that we have at Tresham.

The final day saw our Hair and Beauty tutors showcase what they offer both on the course and within the Tresham Studios which offers appointments to the public. Hairdressing offered demonstrations on plaiting and up dos, whilst our Beauty team demonstrated treatments that are undertaken as part of the course.

As well as offering all these great activities staff were available to discuss the different courses and facilities that Tresham has to offer. Our brand new
school leavers prospectus was available to take away along with a goody bag full of promotional material. The Skills Show was a great opportunity for us to meet new people and discuss the fantastic opportunities available at Tresham.
