Teacher Education & Social Studies
If you are considering a career in teaching post-16 learners or if you are currently working as a verifier or assessor, our teacher training courses are designed to help you improve your knowledge of working in education. We have teaching and training course options that are suitable for anybody wanting to work in the post-compulsory sector. Our PTLLS course is a great starting place if you want to sample a taste of teaching. We also have CertEd/PGCE courses that will allow you to be fully qualified as a teacher and we can provide you with placements to allow you to get the valuable classroom experience you need to successfully complete your qualification.

Most people start their teaching journey with our Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS). This is a great course which is run in a supportive environment to work through the basics of Teaching and Learning. On completion of this course the natural progression is to the full award which is the PGCE (for Graduates) or CertEd (for non-graduates).
Our teaching qualifications are offered in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire, which has a long-established history in teacher training and education. Our experienced lecturers will take you through each of the elements of your chosen course, providing practical examples to ensure that the theories learnt can be applied to the working environment. Our courses are designed to be very interactive and students are able to use their knowledge within the classroom from a very early stage. Our teaching qualifications include regular teaching observations to ensure that you are you are making progress towards achieving the required professional standards.
Our Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is designed for those looking to teach in the further education sector. The Certificate in Education (CertEd) route is also available for those people who possess a wealth of experience instead of a degree. Both courses are available in either a two year part-time or one year full-time route. Placements are available within a college environment to allow you to get the valuable teaching experience that you will need to complete the course. You can enquire about placements at interview, once you have submitted your application. All applications are to be completed online by following the links on the course page that you want to study.
