Students Get Safe in the Sun
On Thursday 30th April Tresham’s Level 3 Beauty Therapy students attended a presentation from the iconic self-tan brand St Tropez as part of the college’s preparation for Sun Awareness Week 2015 (4th May to 10th May).
St Tropez representatives visited the college’s Corby campus from to advise students about the dangers of sun beds and offered safer alternatives to direct sun exposure by using St Tropez products for a golden glow all year round.
Students also learnt about cosmetic tans and contouring techniques which can make a client look slimmer and more defined. This training session has allowed the students to increase their knowledge and enhance their beauty techniques by putting the skills they have learnt into practice.
One Beauty Therapy student, Georgie Ready, designed a noticeboard full of information about skin cancer and ways to reduce the risk in the sun. She highlighted the need to protect your skin if you are exposing it to UV rays and the benefits of using a spray tan instead.
As part of ‘Sun Awareness Week’ Tresham Studios, the college’s professional hair and beauty salons, has been offering 50% discounted tanning treatments in Kettering and Corby.
Beauty Therapy tutor Helen Britton said “It’s been a very successful day and the students have learned so much about protecting and reducing exposure to skin damage. They are now more knowledgeable to advise clients of the best spray tan for their skin, including cosmetic treatments, such as contouring. Georgie has also done a brilliant job with creating the safer sun awareness noticeboard.“
