Student life & enhancement

Tresham Students’ Union

Tresham Students’ Union is the representative organisation for all Tresham students.  A leadership team, the TSU Exec, is elected each year and includes the posts of President, Vice President, LGBT Officer, BME Officer, Disabilities Officer, Mature Students’ Officer, Media & Communications Officer and HE Students’ Officer. There is also the opportunity to stand for election as a Student Governor. In addition we recruit a large team of volunteers as General Officers.  The Student Engagement Coordinator visits all new groups in September to explain all that TSU has to offer and how you can get involved.  You can also find out more from the TSU Office at Kettering and the TSU Base at Corby. The TSU Exec also act as hosts and ambassadors at Open Evenings, School Visits and Careers Fairs.  Getting involved adds significantly to your personal development and employability skills and looks great on CV’s and university applications!

Student Voice is the most important area of TSU’s activities.  Alongside the formal questionnaires and surveys initiated by the college Quality team, TSU holds regular meetings and puts on fun activities where all students get to have their say on all aspects of college life.  The Exec Team then meet regularly with senior college staff to progress important issues raised on behalf of all students.

Tresham Xtra is the college’s programme of Enrichment Activities. The different academic areas arrange trips, visiting speakers and organisations related to your programme of study.  The TSU team contributes to Tresham Xtra through a full range of Charity and Awareness activities, and brings in lots of visiting organisations offering services to young people.  We try to our activities fun and engaging to add to the overall enjoyment of college life.

TSU affiliates to the National Union of Students and supports many of their campaigns and events.  TSU is one of the most active college unions in the country and TSU Officers get the opportunity to attend national conferences and training courses and meet students from colleges all over the country which is a great experience!  Our affiliation to NUS entitles all students to purchase the NUS Extra Student Discount Card which offers amazing savings  with both national and local retailers and services. You can get full details from the TSU staff team.

The TSU mission statement sums up what TSU aims to do –

  • Make students feel welcome, meet their needs, and develop a vibrant, supportive student community.
  • Provide an environment where student voices are heard and issues are addressed.
  • Promote enjoyable events that both complement and contrast with the classroom learning

Are there any social activities?

You will have the chance to get involved in lots of social activities.  Some are linked to your course, such as trips and competitions, but we also have a varied ‘enrichment’ programme which gives you an opportunity to meet people from other parts of the College.  The programme varies each year and can include, for example, sports and outdoor activities or music and performing arts.  We are committed to giving you the best experience possible – so if you have an idea or a suggestion for an event or activity, let Student Services know!
