Student Reaches Final for National Design Competition
A Graphic Design student from Tresham, Catherine Evans, has been selected out of more than 200 entries as one of the 12 finalists for the Design Museum’s Student Design of the Year 2013 – ‘Extraordinary Stories about Ordinary Things’ competition.
Catherine ,who is studying the Subsidiary Diploma in Graphic Design at Tresham’s Kettering campus, entered the competition alongside her 18 other classmates after Tutor, Maria Delves, found the competition which is open to all young people aged 14-19 and currently studying on UK design courses
online last September.
Tresham’s Creative Arts and Media students regularly take part in national competitions and complete external commissions as a valuable addition to the core curriculum delivered on the course. They provide opportunities to put the relevant skills gained into practice and give students the experience needed to gain employment in the creative industry.
Entrants were asked to design a billboard poster to promote the Design Museum Pop-Up Collection Tour to advertise the touring collection and reflect the theme of ‘the extraordinary everyday.’ The concept needed a single, identifiable graphic mark to be used as the visual identity on the poster and related marketing and merchandise.
Catherine Evans said: “I am really excited to be a finalist for the Design Museum’s competition and I can’t wait for the final in London.”
Maria Delves, Graphic Design Tutor at Tresham said:
“I am delighted to hear that Catherine has been selected as a finalist. She has worked very hard to produce excellent designs for the competition and it is an amazing achievement to be amongst the top twelve design students in the country.”
Each shortlisted entry will be awarded the accolade Student Design of the Year 2013. An overall winner from each category will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Design Museum on Saturday 29th March 2014. Winners will receive a range of exciting design prizes and will see their work exhibited on the prestigious Design Museum and Pearson Education websites.
Tresham is wishing Catherine luck for the finals and look forward to reporting more about her success.
