Student Project Donated to Local Nursery
On Friday 13th March, Tresham College presented a specially designed toy petrol pump to the Squirrels Day Nursery in Corby who wanted to enhance their play shop area. Two students from Tresham’s Level 2 Painting and Decorating course took on the project and worked with tutors and the nursery before Craig Love, Deputy Head of School for Engineering and Construction delivered it delighted staff and children.
The project was commissioned in December 2014 after Squirrels Day Nursery approached the college to produce the toy for their play area. After being made by Tresham’s Woodwork Technician it was handed over to the Level 2 Painting and Decorating students who had to research and use low odour and child friendly paint.
Craig Love, Deputy Head of School for Engineering and Construction said:
“We love to give something back to the community and projects like this are great experience for the students.”
Aiden, one of the L2 painting and decorating students at Tresham (pictured) said:
“It was a really enjoyable task which took about three weeks to paint. We had to use non-toxic paint to ensure it was safe for the children to use.”
This is the first project the students have worked on with the Nursery and students and staff were very pleased to present the top petrol pump which will now become part of their play shop area to help the children learn about money and buying goods.
Tresham students regularly work with local organisations and schools on a range of projects to gain real experience of working with different clients with varying needs.
