Oxford University Beckons
The hard work of Tresham’s 6a Sixth Form Academy students, Jermaine McEwan and Daisy Gilbert, has really paid off with both receiving conditional offers to study at Oxford University. Jermaine is currently studying English Literature and Language, History, Law and Psychology. He is predicted to achieve A/A*’s in his exams, and hopes to study History at Oxford. Jermaine said:
I moved from London to Kettering during the final year of my GCSEs, and so completed them at Kettering Buccleuch Academy. I wanted to study my A Levels in a more mature setting, so Tresham was ideal.
The tutors have been really supportive throughout the university application process. I found writing a balanced personal statement to be the most challenging task, but was pleased with the end result. My application to Oxford also meant that I had to sit an entrance exam and a formal interview.
Daisy is studying History, Psychology, Sociology and Maths. She is also predicted A/A*’s in her final exams, and plans to study Experimental Psychology at Oxford. Daisy had this to say about her time at Tresham and her future plans:
After completing my GCSEs at Southfileds School, I was keen to enrol at Tresham for my A Level studies. I felt that I needed a change of scene from the typical school environment, and after attending an open evening I felt that Tresham had an open and friendly atmosphere. I have enjoyed working to a more flexible study programme because it has encouraged me to take responsibility for my own learning.
I also had to sit an entrance exam for Oxford, which involved problem solving, critical thinking and an essay question. I have really enjoyed studying Psychology and hope to eventually work in the field of Neuro-Psychology.
