Nursery Projects Pitched to Panel
On Wednesday 28th March, learners from the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education aged 16 to 26 presented their ideas for setting up a brand new nursery in a dragons den style project in front of a panel of judges including Head of School for Care and Early Years, Hilary Webster, and tutors who judged the proposals as potential customers.
Learners were asked to work together in small groups and use the knowledge and skills they have learnt on their course to prepare a presentation to show the feasibility of their idea and demonstrate their knowledge of health and safety requirements, legislation, care policies and plan the learning environments.
As part of the project, learners prepared a mixture of posters, leaflets, policies 3D designs and plans to support their proposals.
The Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education covers a range of subjects specific to the sector to prepare them for the workplace including nursery placements and experience in schools.
Lyndsey Barnett, Early Years Tutor and Course Leader for DCE Year 2 said:
“The presentations were very impressive and the learners did an excellent job of showing that they understand what is required to run a successful nursery that cares for children. The groups worked hard to prepare their presentations and produced a variety of materials for the panel to highlight their ideas.”
Hilary Webster, Head of School for Health, Care and Early Years at Tresham said:
“The groups did an excellent job of showing their ideas for setting up a nursery with all groups considering children’s development, safety and support. Exercises like this are important to our learners as they provide the opportunity to develop their presentation skills and prepares them for their first year exams.”
The winning proposal was for “Starlight Nursery” by Sharaine Scholar, Emily Chambers, Jessica Thompson, Kirsty Dawe, Ailish Tait and Nikki Moorey.
