Martin Celebrates After Winning National Prince?s Trust Award
A former Team Member from The Prince’s Trust in Northamptonshire, delivered by Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, is celebrating after winning the Breakthrough Award at the National Celebrate Success Awards held on Tuesday 26th March 2013.
Martin Meeuwissen won the Breakthrough Award after being nominated by Team Leader Mark Williams and Development Worker, Rebecca Wyatt. Martin spent his childhood moving between two countries which triggered anxiety made worse when a violent home life led to speech impediment. As a result, bullying was a constant factor in Martin’s life.
Martin was excluded from lessons at school and following his mother’s death, he left school with three GCSEs and after trouble with the police he had hit his lowest point. Upon joining the Prince’s Trust Team, Martin’s progressed enormously and he has overcome his communication barrier and shone in community projects. Martin has now established a career and is looking forward to the future thanks to his time with The Prince’s Trust.
Caroline Pullen, Head of School for Young People’s Engagement at Tresham said:
“We are proud of each and every one of the young people who take part in one of our Prince’s Teams and Martin represents just one of hundreds of the team members we see each year who change their path in life to a more positive one with increased confidence and opportunities.”
