Jobs at Rushden Lake supported by Tresham College

03.03.2020

Rushden Lakes hosted a programme aimed at helping unemployed people find roles in the local job market – helped by Tresham College.

The focus was on preparing local people for opportunities in the hospitality sector, as part of a “Recruit Rushden” initiative delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

A presentation was held at the end of the two week course at Canoe 2 at Rushden Lakes. The programme gave participants the chance to gain accredited qualifications and sector specific industry knowledge of the hospitality sector, alongside support on essential employability skills such as interview techniques, CV writing and customer service. Various employers at Rushden Lakes were involved.

Head of Adult and Community Learning at Tresham College Cheryl Needham said:

“ Tresham College provides the training to uplift local unemployed people’s work skills alongside a specific sector.  The training leads on to an interview with one of the partner employers at Rushden Lakes.  The College works with Rushden & Wellingborough JobCentre Plus who refer their customers to the course.”

Donna French, Rushden Lakes Centre manager, said:

“As a key player in the Northampton’s retail and leisure market we feel it’s our responsibility to ensure we make a positive impact in the local community. We’re delighted to be working with Tresham College and the DWP to bring together a team of employment experts to help people who need it most.”

The latest employability programme builds on the success of the Mentoring Circles programme, which was organised by Recruit Rushden in conjunction with the DWP last July.
