Tresham College of Further and Higher Education has increased the range of Apprenticeships it offers by partnering with the Digital Youth Academy (DYA) to introduce the first Social Digital Apprenticeship in Northamptonshire from January 2014.

The first group of apprentices will start in January 2014 on the Social Digital Apprenticeship, which includes 12 full days training over the year at Tresham’s
Corby campus. The new apprenticeship will provide the group with the skills needed in an ever growing digital world, allowing them to pursue careers within
digital marketing or customer service and as social media assistants or communications officers.

The Social Digital Apprenticeship covers a variety of different aspects entailed with working in the digital world and will see apprentices gain a Level 2 Diploma in IT User Skills, Social Networking for Business, Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English and Level 2 in ICT together with an Employee Rights and Responsibilities qualification.

More and more businesses are moving towards using digital marketing as a way to grow and expand improving their competitiveness, as a result individuals with the relevant skills are becoming increasingly sought after to enable businesses to build social media strategies and communicate an organisation’s brand to an international audience.

Rachel Kay, Tresham’s Managing Director and Deputy Principal, added:

“Being able to introduce the first Social Digital Apprenticeship to the county shows Tresham’s commitment to ensuring that young people and adults are trained with the relevant skills that are required for businesses in the area and increasing the employability of our graduates. Both Tresham and the Digital Youth Academy are committed to providing opportunities for people from all backgrounds and giving them the support they need to achieve their career goals. This brand new programme gives our students a chance not just to earn while they learn, but also to enter a fast growing industry where there is a huge demand for suitably qualified staff.  We’re confident that this will be a long and successful partnership that will offer young people an exciting and viable
career path, one that didn’t even exist 10 years ago.”

Penny Power, Digital Youth Academy Founder, said:

“We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Tresham to deliver the Social Digital Apprenticeship.  Employers recognise that they must develop their workforce to include digital skills in order for them to have a competitive edge in this ever increasing online world, but are often unsure where to begin.  Our new Social Digital Apprenticeship enables employers to upskill their existing workforce or recruit a new member of staff to help fill their skills gap and stay ahead, allowing them to develop their workforce of tomorrow, today.”
