Experience Kettering Launched for Young People 18-24
On Friday 7th March, to conclude Tresham’s activities for National Apprenticeship Week 2014, the college was joined by Phillip Hollobone MP and Job Centre Plus to host a breakfast meeting with local employers at the Kettering campus. The meeting was held to launch a new initiative the college is introducing to the town, ‘Experience Kettering’ which aims to increase the employability for young people aged 18-24 in and around the town.
‘Experience Kettering’ follows the college’s recent successful project in Corby which was supported by Andy Sawford, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire and involved approximately 30 employers who provided work experience for young people who have been out of work or training in Corby to help them enhance their CV and increase their self-confidence when applying for work.
Friday’s launch event was attended by 40 local employers with more than half signing up to offer work experience placements on the day.
On Friday 21st March, Tresham will be hosting a matching event where young people meet with the various employers and arrange unpaid work experience and placements with full support from the college and JobCentre Plus Kettering. These placements are expected to start as early as April 2014.
Rachel Kay, Deputy Principal at Tresham said:
“After the fantastic success we had in Corby we wanted to build on this even further and introduce Experience Kettering for young people aged 18-24 with support of Phillip Hollobone MP and JobCentre Plus.”
“I was really pleased to see so many employers showing their support for this scheme and am even happier to see that more than half have already signed up to offer work experience for young people. I look forward to matching young people and these organisations on Friday 21st March at our Kettering campus.”
