This is a part-time City & Guilds qualification designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed to apply and maintain acrylic nail enhancements. The course also includes studying health and safety in the salon.
This course covers all aspects of applying, maintaining and removing acrylic nail extensions professionally. You will study the theoretical aspects of the service, as well as how to provide a thorough consultation to determine your clients objectives. With supportive tuition you will have the opportunity to experience both providing and receiving nail services, ensuring you have the knowledge and skills to provide nail enhancements to your own clients.
The course will include a mix of practical and theory sessions to include:
- An introduction to nail enhancements
- Preparation of client including consultation methods
- Anatomy and physiology of the nail and skin
- Theory of products and equipment
- Health and safety requirements for nail technologies
- The application of acrylic nails systems
- Maintenance and aftercare advice
- Removal techniques
To expand or advance your skills you could continue your studies in beauty therapy.
Following the completion of the course you could work in a salon providing nail enhancements or as a mobile nail technician.
Following your practical training you will complete formative and summative assessments where you will have the opportunity to gain a pass, merit or distinction. Please be advised that you may need to provide models for your assessments. There will be theory tuition for health and safety, as well as nail enhancements, which will involve online exams. You will also be required to study at home during the course to enhance your practical skills, as well as

Professional dress code is required, which includes a black tunic (available through College), smart black trousers and closed in, low heel, black shoes. You will need to wear your hair up (if long) and remove any jewellery or visible piercings to conform to City & Guilds assessment requirements.
You will also need to buy a ring binder folder for theory notes and your portfolio of evidence.
