What will I study?

This course is for those who want to learn initial counselling skills to help and support others, either in the voluntary sector or in an employed capacity. It will not teach you to be a counsellor, but it may help you to decide whether or not you want to train as one.

What will I be able to do after I complete this course?

Level 2 CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Skills (Subject to interview)

Are there any additional costs?

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

Is there anything else I need to know when considering this course?

The course is not suitable for anyone who is currently experiencing emotional or psychological problems, as it involves personal disclosure and self awareness. Dual relationships such as close friendships and intimate relationships are not permitted. In some circumstances the tutor may ask learners to withdraw from the course and seek therapeutic or medical advice.

Please be aware that introductory courses involve a small amount of weekly typed written work. You will also have access to online resources. Therefore you will need a computer/laptop or you may access college computer facilities outside of lesson times if you do not have your own.
