This course is designed to prepare you as a professional for a life
in the varied modern music industry where you will be required
to turn your hand to many music and sound related jobs. You will
follow a specialist work-related programme of study that covers and
develops the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills you
need to operate professionally within the music industry.
You will hold performances in a range of external locations: previous
gigs have included a performance for charity at The Yards in
Kettering Town Centre and headlining at the Wicksteed Park bonfire
night celebrations to a crowd in excess of 14,000 people. Students
will also have the opportunity to take part in an optional trip abroad.
You will study a range of units, including; performance (group and
solo), composition, critical listening appreciation and a research
dissertation. During the HNC you will plan and deliver performances,
compose for film & TV, deliver audio production projects, get
involved in critical music appreciation and dissertation research skills.
For the HND you will take a specialist route, choosing from session
musician, music production, sound engineering, composition,
sound design, music business or artist management. Here you will
develop your own projects and receive guidance from the lecturers
to develop your knowledge.
On completion of the course you will be able to pursue a career in the music industry in areas such as performance, production, recording, composition and media. You will also have the option to apply to top up the HND to a full BA Hons degree at a number of universities.
The course is 100% coursework. Assessments vary from performances, presentations, dissertations, composition portfolios and critical appreciation. The course is 60% performance/practical and 40% written.
Approx. £300-350 to cover investment in your own instrument and maintenance, manuscript, software and external visits to conferences/music exhibitions. The optional trip abroad will incur extra cost, this will be discussed at interview.
Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 7 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
For students studying on a full time basis, this course is currently two full days a week and provides you with a minimum of 15 hours contact time. There is an expectation that you will complete independent study in addition to this. Regular tutorials and one-to-one sessions are also offered within the programme to further support your study.

Please note that all students who wish to apply for this course who are non-native English speakers, or have not studied the final two years of school/college in English, must demonstrate capability in English to a standard commensurate to:
-IELTS 5.5, with a minimum of 5.0 being awarded on individual sections
-PTE Academic score of 42 to 49.
