Essential Skills for Employment

Why study this course?

Foundation Learning at the Kettering, Windmill Avenue Campus/Oakley Road, Corby, is for students at Entry Level 2 and above who wish to learn a range of employability skills, choosing from a selection of vocationally stranded areas, further develop English and math skills, engage in an extended work placement and develop skills to assist in progression into employment, on to higher level educational programmes, volunteering or alternative work provision, as well as develop confidence, independence and life skills. Our class sizes are small, taught by highly experienced, qualified staff, who are supported by the Additional Learning Support team, who (dependent on need/evidence) can provide 1:1 and a higher level of group support. Learners are able to identify and develop the foundation skills relevant to some of the vocationally specific courses/careers that are offered within the college. High level of learning support, individualised programmes, long term work placement opportunities, meaningful, relevant and interesting activities, high level of teaching, adult and positive environment.

What will I be able to do after I complete this course?

Students successfully completing their first year may choose to progress on the second or third years and study for a higher-level qualification.

Learners successfully completing their Entry Level programme may progress onto mainstream Level 1/2 Vocationally specific programmes.

How will I be assessed?

Main qualification is portfolio based
English exam
Math - exam

Are there any additional costs?

Students will need to cover the printing costs for work produced, this is estimated to be £20-£30 per academic year.

Is there anything else I need to know when considering this course?

There will be opportunities to engage with work placement form part of the study programme.
