Access courses are ideal if you would like to enter higher education but haven't got the necessary qualifications. They are ideally suited to adults who have been out of education for some time and who need to re-learn how to study at a higher level before progressing onto a degree programme.
The course will cover a broad range of core subjects and study elements all designed to equip you with the necessary skills to study at degree level. These include study skills and academic writing skills. In addition you will also study pathway specific subjects to enable you to pursue your chosen career/degree course specialism.
This programme is recognised by all UK universities and higher education establishments as an entry qualification for degree level study. Previous students have progressed on to degrees and Higher National Diplomas both at Tresham University Centre and other universities in a wide range of subject areas.
Course assessment is carried out through a variety of methods, including essays, seminars, projects, presentations and exams.
If you are aged 19 or over at the start of your course, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan to cover the course fee of £2995. This loan is not means tested, and is only repayable once you are earning over £21,000. If you progress onto and complete a higher education programme after your Access course this loan will be cancelled and you will not have to repay your loan. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first level 3 qualification then you will not have to pay any course fees. For further details about our fees and discounts please refer to the fees section of the website or alternatively contact our Customer Services team on 01536 413123.
In order for learners to progress on to an undergraduate degree at a British university, it is essential that learners have achieved a minimum of a grade C in GCSE Maths and English (and Science if they wish to train as a Primary School teacher). Any learner who has not achieved these qualifications prior to enrolling on to the Access to HE programme should enrol on to our Pre-Access programme, which consists of Maths, English and/or Science GCSE as well as the academic study skills package taught on the Access programme. (Please note, only Science GCSE may be sat alongside the Access course). Learners wishing to undertake the Pre-Access to HE GCSE retake programme must have achieved either a Grade D in their GCSE retake subject or achieved Level 2 in a respective Functional Skill.
All applicants must attend an interview and provide GCSE certificates and an academic/employment reference stating their suitability for the course at the time of interview. All applicants should also ensure that they have already chosen their five university options prior to attending the interview.
