Computer Science hardware & Software (Level 3)

What will I study?

In year one you will study a range of units, including: principles of computer science; fundamentals of computer systems; IT systems security and encryption; business applications of social media; impact of computing; digital graphics and animation; planning and management of computing projects and a software design and development project. In year two you will study either the Hardware Technician pathway or the Digital Development route, or possibly a mixed route. The units studied and campus of delivery will depend on choices made at the end of year one.

What will I be able to do after I complete this course?

This Level 3 qualification can help you find employment, or give you the UCAS points needed for university.
You will be able to move to the Computing HNC/HND at Tresham College and Bedford College, move on to a degree or go directly into employment as a Software Developer or Hardware Engineer.

How will I be assessed?

Portfolio of assignment work with regular assessments.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need a memory stick for saving your work; stationery, a calculator, and a file to help keep your work organised. The recommended textbook costs around £20.

What qualifications will I gain?

• Computing BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma AND • English and maths qualifications if required
