Celebrating Apprenticeship Success
Tresham is celebrating more than ever before as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2013 with some great success stories from across the college.
Mark Sharpling, 22, who is studying an apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating will be off to compete in the 2013 Dulux Apprentice of the Year competition in April. This follows his excellent performance to complete the NVQ 2 in Painting and Decorating at Tresham’s Corby campus whilst being employed by DJ Hutchings. Mark’s tutor, Craig Love, said: “Mark is an excellent apprentice and is an example to the rest of his group. I am really pleased that he will be progressing to the Level 3 and I hope to see him study at degree level. Mark has worked really hard and his standard of work is one the best I have seen.”
Another group of students who are celebrating during Apprenticeship Week 2013 is the second year Hairdressing Apprentices who saw 100% achievement for their course. All apprentices have retained their jobs in the challenging economic climate and the majority of the group are running their own ‘columns’ in the salons they work for.
However, it is not just the apprenticeships completed this year that the college is celebrating. A group of Tata Steel employees are extremely pleased to have completed a BSc in Engineering last summer as a direct result of them completing their apprenticeships at Tresham’s Corby campus.
Tresham’s apprentices highlight how apprenticeships can provide an alternative way of learning whilst gaining a wage and the additional experience within the workplace improving peoples opportunities for full time employment.
