Andrea Leadsom MP visits Silverstone UTC during the last stretch!
Andrea Leadsom, MP for South Northamptonshire, recently visited the Silverstone UTC site to see the final preparations to the building work before it is due to open in September 2013 for its first intake of students.
Andrea Leadsom MP who has been a strong supporter of the Silverstone UTC met key staff at the Silverstone UTC including Principal, Neil Patterson, to walk around the site of the brand new £10m building that will house the Silverstone UTC.
Students who attend Silverstone UTC will specialise in either Business & Technical Events Management or High-performance Engineering. A number of the businesses are already signed up with the UTC to deliver “Industrial Challenges” – projects that contextualise the learning experience. These include Silverstone Circuits and Grandstand Group for Business & Technical Events Management. High-performance Engineering companies Festo, Flybrid and Mahle Powertrain are also on board.
The Silverstone UTC was given approval by Department for Education as one of only 13 across the UK in October 2011following its proposal to offer young people aged 14 to 19 the opportunity to specialise in High Performance Engineering or Technical Events Management at the internationally renowned facility.
The Silverstone UTC has been built so it is fit for the curriculum provision and industrial challenges which will form a key part of the learning and has been designed by HKS Architects to complement Silverstone’s long history of being the number one destination for high profile events based within the heart of Motorsport valley.
The Silverstone UTC building is on target for completion in August. The brand new, multi-million pound centre of excellence has been given an inspiring location, overlooking the National Pit Straight at the Silverstone Circuit, on land gifted by the BRDC.
In order to give all students the attention they need, numbers are restricted at the UTC, but there are still places available for students who want to study Technical Events Management. We will however be running a waiting list for High Performance Engineering for Year 12.
