6a Sixth Form Academy Builds on College Success

Tresham College of Further and Higher Education’s brand new 6a Sixth Form Academy is all set to become the gold standard for A Level provision through its new approach to sixth form study.

Tresham’s 6a Sixth Form Academy will be opening at the college’s Kettering campus this September to increase students’ opportunities to progress into their chosen career and gaining a place at one of the top universities across the UK. This follows comments from top universities who expressed concerns that too few state school students are taking the right subjects at A Level, restricting their options at university and closing off certain career paths.

The 6a Sixth Form Academy has been built on the ethos of success and quality results that the college has achieved for all its Level 3 provision. In the latest Data Service’s League Table 2010/11, Tresham was placed 7th out of a total of 230 General Further Education Colleges for its success rates for 16-18 year olds.

Tresham has a long established provision of offering a variety of A Levels from its Kettering campus and last year saw 100% achievement at A Level with students progressing to universities including Warwick to study Law, Southampton to study Nursing, Nottingham to study Computer Science and Leicester to study Criminology.

The new 6a Sixth Form Academy groups A levels into Professional Pathways – linked to future employment opportunities in Science, Creative, Business & Management, Language & Culture, Social Science and New Technology.

To ensure that each student achieves their potential Tresham will offer the stretch and challenge programme to help students realise their ambitions and goals.

The 6a Honours Programme will offer academic high flyers additional extended project work, study skills, mentoring and guidance to make strong applications to the most competitive universities together with additional equipment and incentives to continue their academic success.

Sean Cowley, Head of School for A Levels and Access at Tresham said:
“Tresham’s new sixth form academy is extremely well resourced to meet the needs of each student who joins us in September. We are ready to establish the 6a Academy as specialists in post 16 education and our aim is to enable every student to fully achieve their potential.”
