Work Experience Success
The School of Foundation Learning has had another successful year with 100% of learners completing a range external work placements.
All learners have carried out a minimum of 30 hours, with many going above this – and one learner completing over 60 hours! Feedback from employers has been extremely positive with many commenting on the high level of work readiness skills that they have displayed and the commitment, attendance, time keeping and enthusiasm demonstrated.
Several placements have resulted in job offers and opportunities to explore apprenticeships. Callum O’Leary, who completed his placement at Nandos in Corby, has been taken on part time with the promise of a full time position once he completes his college course. Callum said he found the experience “hard work” but “very rewarding.”
Jacob Lewis spent his placement working alongside the Estates Team at the Kettering campus, assisting with setting up rooms for exams and meetings, fire alarm tests, evacuation chair training and organising the garage. Jacob said he “enjoyed working as part of team.”
Other learner comments were:
“I was nervous at first, but it was so much fun and very different.” Zane Neal – Alpha Pre-school.
“I learnt the importance of following instructions and completing tasks.” Elisia Langley – AJ’s Hair Salon.
“I now know what is expected of me within the workplace.” Amber Gooding – Co-operative Stores.
Helen Rushe, from Waitrose in Rushden, said:
“It was nice to see young people who were motivated, enthusiastic and had a good level of skills with which to be able to complete all tasks the placement required.”
Jackie Kay, Operations Manager at Corby Sport Dimensions Ltd, who took on Connor Robinson for his placement, said:
“I feel his confidence and social skills have developed throughout the time he has been with us and I hope he finds a suitable job that he is interested in.”Back to news
