Career Success for Graphic Design Student

jen sherreyFollowing a successful year on the Level 2 Diploma in Graphic Design, Jennifer Sherrey’s hard work has been rewarded with a full time position as a Mac Artworker with a global branding solutions company.

Returning to education at the age of 35 was a big decision for Jennifer, who had previously been working as a project manager for Northamptonshire County Council for 10 years. Jennifer said:

“After being made redundant in June 2015 I decided that it was the right time to train towards a new career. I have always been a creative person and have done a lot of craftwork in my spare time. Although I have studied at degree level, after speaking to the tutors at Tresham we decided that, as graphic design is an area I haven’t had any experience in before, the level 2 Diploma would be ideal for giving me the foundation knowledge I needed”

When asked how she found working in a group of mainly 16-18 year olds, Jennifer said:

“It hasn’t been a problem. The tutors have treated me the same way and I have got on well with the rest of the group. For me it was all about getting the most out of my time at Tresham, so I applied myself to all of the assignments and looked to do as much independent study as possible and take advantage of the excellent resources on offer.”

Jennifer kept her options open as the end of the course neared, applying for jobs and also exploring the potential for further study. However, the work that she did for an online portfolio unit proved to be pivotal when applying for positions, as she explains:

“I submitted the piece of work alongside my application and they must have been impressed as it secured me an interview. I am really looking forward to starting a new career and putting the skills I have learnt into practice.”

Jennifer achieved a Distinction* for her course and has already started her new career.
