The Prince’s Trust xl programme
Introduction of qualification
From September 2010 The Prince’s Trust xl programme will incorporate qualifications that will offer the opportunity to accredit achievement, as well as recognise young people’s participation and personal development.
The qualifications
- Students will have the opportunity to gain Award or Certificate sized qualifications, with the possibility of a Diploma sized qualification in the future.
- Achievement will be at Level 1 or Entry Level; this will depend on the individual students’ capabilities.
- Achievement at level 2 is also being investigated and will probably be in the offer of single units that can be incorporated into the qualification.
- The Certificate sized qualification will have equivalence of 2 x GCSE, and a threshold percentage at Level 1 of 40%.
- A Level 1 Certificate with 180 guided learning hours will accrue 50 performance points.
- The main aim is to offer xl as a programme that fits within Foundation Learning.
- For some xl club members a full qualification may not be achievable over the course of the xl programme and so they will be able to claim credit for individual units.
Currently…
The Prince’s Trust is working with a number of xl centres to trial components of this new qualification so that we will have appropriate resources (including staff training) in place to fully support your Club from September 2010.
As a summary, The Prince’s Trust xl programme package will now include:
- A curriculum and programme of activities which will enable the majority of xl club members to complete a QCF Level 1 Certificate or Award.
- Portfolio based evidence which will be assessed through internal verification and/or xl club adviser moderation.
- Materials including student portfolios, adviser manual, marketing resources and additional learning materials.
- Programme Executive support
- Adviser and Link Teacher training
- Local and national events
- Membership of the xl network and the opportunity to share best practice
