Taylor Boxall teaches the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Media and the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Media. Before starting work at Tresham, Taylor was employed by the BBC as a Broadcast Assistant at BBC Coventry and Warwickshire radio station and he worked across their entire diary of daily shows during the course of the week. Taylor’s main interest was the weekend shows and so he worked alongside a producer and several presenters tailoring the content that was appropriate to the nature of each show. “I got to meet some and intereact with very interesting people such as award winning chefs, local craft-workers and artists to name but a few as well as the slightly more famous faces of Paul Daniels, Jeffrey Dench (Judy Dench’s brother) and Meera Syal.

Taylor’s professional experience is mainly within local radio production having worked in that media sector for over two years. Of that time he says, “working in such a close knit community, I got to understand the mechanics of a radio station quite intricately and my responsibilities ranged from basic administration through to producing shows and controlling station output.

When asked what his three most prestigious/ satisfying professional projects were he said:

  • Producing a 6 minute stop-motion animation about a toy bear called Roscoe. He is an abandoned toy just left to die in the dust of an attic and one day he wakes up. He explores the world of the attic and wears himself out. He awakes in a dream world and does not have a pleasant time and so decides to lie back in the dust where he is most content. The piece is an exploration of both commercialism within modern society and the inescapable, or at the very least, uncompromising quality of innate human nature.
  • Acting as producer for Lorna Bailey for over a year when she returned to broadcasting and helping to create a show uniquely identifiable. In particular, generating regular show items such as ‘The Relay’ (guests were linked to the following guest through their passion for sport) and ‘Our Team’ (several local, grass-roots level sports clubs visited the station cyclically to report on their current position in the league tables).
  • Working alongside the entire BBC Coventry and Warwickshire team in order to create a season of commemorative programmes and features with respect to the anniversary of the Coventry Blitz.

When asked what he enjoys most about teaching, Taylor says: “I like the challenge of something new every day. I also love to learn myself so knowing that I am in a position to learn as well as teach is really rewarding.”
