School of Computing and IT

The School of Computing and IT offers an exciting selection of courses from Level 1 IT User through to Level 4/5 HNC / HND.  This means that there is a course for every learner interested in Computing regardless of ability.  The teaching team are welcoming and enthusiastic and feedback from learners confirms that the quality of teaching and learning in the school is good and it just keeps getting better!

Courses in Computing and IT are run at Kettering, Wellingborough and from September 2011, our brand new Corby Campus as well.  Options for Level 3 students are Games Programming and Software Development, IT Technicians and 3D and Multimedia.   Our learners are also given the opportunity to take industry standard qualifications alongside their main program of study, allowing them to stand out from the crowd.

The facilities at all three sites are currently being completely upgraded - with a whole new infrastructure being installed, which will make Tresham one of the very best places available to you to study Computing and IT.

Trips and Enrichment

Study visits are organised depending upon which course you choose to study and the relevance to the curriculum requirements.   There are also enrichment activities organised within college such as Games Club and various fund raising events - as well as a range of college wide activities.  A full tutorial and enrichment package is offered to learners alongside their course.

Learners

The School of Computing attracts learners from a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.  We would like to encourage more girls to join our team of dedicated learners, but we already benefit from a broad mix that includes learners from various ethnic backgrounds and disabled groups, who are well supported within the school.  We encourage learners to get involved in "learner Voice" activities, and where possible "live projects" - for example, this year, one of our learners created a website for the Students' Union at Tresham.  Others volunteered as "IT Heroes" offering support to other schools in the college, gaining valuable work experience.

Curriculum

All courses are designed with progression in mind - providing learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to prepare for employment or progression to higher level study.  They also provide development opportunities for those already in work, particularly on our Part Time and Higher Level courses.   We have well equipped "hardware" laboratories at both our Wellingborough and Tresham sites for practical elements of the courses, and an exciting 3D / Multimedia suite is planned for the New Build in Corby.

Learner destinations

Most of our learners choose to stay and progress with us.  There are opportunities to progress through the different levels preparing you for the world of work or on to higher levels of study through the various courses available at Tresham and / or on to university.
