Learner Support

Here at the Rutland College we have extensive resources for support and guidance for learners both in their studies and in many aspects of their life.  Our teaching programmes are regularly reviewed and we regularly seek feedback from learners and parents to help plan our provision and resources effectively.

Careers

The Connexions service helps us to provide individual guidance on subject choices and vocational and career opportunities at 18.  We have a well-stocked Careers Library situated in the Library and Research Centre, with information about Higher Education as well as employment opportunities. If you choose to make an application to Higher Education, you will be helped by tutors and the Learner Adviser to complete your UCAS form.  We hold a Higher Education Evening for you and your parents to give guidance and answer any questions. Visits to universities, colleges and careers conventions are organised and mock interviews are arranged as needed.

Counselling Service

The College has an independent counsellor who offers a confidential service for the learners at the College during term time.

Learner Support Services

The Rutland College provides extra help for learners who may need additional support with their coursework, preparation for exams, CVs, interview techniques, study skills, numeracy and English. We offer expert advice, learning support assistants, support from communication support workers, special arrangements for examinations, adapted course materials, plus care and welfare support.  Some of our learners need support because of a disability, sensory impairment, learning difficulty or medical condition.  A support service is also provided for learners with learning difficulties, including dyslexia to assist learners in class and offer specific tutorials where required.

Tutorial Support

As a full time learner you will be given a personal tutor. You will meet not only as part of a tutor group but also on a one-to-one basis to discuss your progress.  Your tutor will also help you to organise your career planning or to help you prepare for Higher Education. Regular progress reports will be compiled for you discuss with your parents or carer and your tutor will complete references for you when necessary.
