Enrichment Opportunities

At The Rutland College you can enjoy an enrichment programme which offers you the chance to take part in sporting activities, try something new, and gain additional qualifications to boost your CV or simply to socialise with fellow learners.

Competitions

The College encourages learners to enter competitions both individually and in groups. Recent successes have included national poetry competitions that led to learners' work being published.

Engineering Education Scheme

This involves working with a practising engineer on a problem currently facing a real company. Learners meet with the engineer regularly and last year attended lectures and workshops at Nottingham University. The scheme offers a unique opportunity to experience the challenge of a career in professional engineering.

External Visits

Staff at the college organise regular educational visits through out the term as part of coursework. In addition there are several trips arranged throughout the academic year for all learners to participate in, in the last year these have included: the Clothes Show Live, Alton Towers, residential trips to Spain and Greece.

Sporting Activities

We offer a full range of sports such as football, hockey, netball, badminton and basketball. In some sports there will be the opportunity to play in competitions against local schools and colleges as well as entering regional and, if successful, national competitions.

Students' Union

All learners at The Rutland College are members of the Students' Union and entitled to attend monthly Union meetings. These meetings are chaired by learners with staff from the college in attendance. There are several sub groups of the Union including the charity committee and social committee, these committees organise events across the college for all to take part in. The Union also helps to ensure that learner life here at the College is enjoyable.

Work Experience

Our Learner Adviser will be happy to make the necessary arrangements. In recent years our learners have been to a variety of placements.
