Choosing Your Programme
The Rutland College concentrates on delivering Advanced (or ‘Level 3') courses of study with some Intermediate (or ‘Level 2') courses through A levels, BTECs and new Diploma courses. GCSE resits in Maths and English are available for learners who need them.
A and AS Levels
A Levels remain the traditional academic route to university although some learners choose to go straight into employment. A full A Level is achieved by completing both AS Level and A2 Level. AS Level is a qualification in its own right.
BTECs
BTECs are an alternative to A Levels providing a more practical real-world approach to learning. They are not based on exams but continuously assessed through assignments and projects that form the basis of an overall grade. Each unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. BTEC National Diplomas consist of 18 units and are equivalent to 3 A Levels. They have been recognised by employers for a great number of years and like A Levels provide UCAS points for entry to higher education.
Diplomas
These are new qualifications, developed in partnership with local schools that combine applied and theoretical study. They are made up of a number of elements: Principal Learning, Project, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, Functional Skills and Specialist Learning. They are available at Level 2 and 3 and help prepare you for employment.
Key Skills
Learners at The Rutland College work towards Key Skills qualifications in Numeracy, IT or Communication, no matter what course you study. Key Skills qualifications qualify for UCAS points for university entry.
GCSEs
We offer the opportunity to retake essential GCSEs in English and Maths alongside your chosen programme.
