Beauty Tips Taught at School

22 Oct 2007

Year 10 students from Wellingborough schools; Weavers, Wrenn, Sir Christopher Hatton and Springboard, are being given the opportunity to learn beauty therapy skills in addition to their  more traditional curriculum with the opening of a brand new beauty training salon at Weavers School on Wednesday 17th October. The salon was officially opened by the Mayor of Wellingborough and representatives from the Learning and Skills Council.

The 14-19 Wellingborough Group, which consists of local schools, Tresham Institute, Connexions, EBLO, Northants Learning and Skills Council and Aimhigher, decided that there was a need to training in beauty therapies in the town of Wellingborough. The new Define Beauty Salon offers training in partnership with Tresham Institute, who already provide training at the existing Define Hair salon at Weavers School and has been funded by the Learning and Skills Council.

The project has been managed and driven by April Ventour-Griffiths, 14-19 coordinator for Wellingborough at EBLO (Education Business Link Organisation), Weavers School and Tresham Institute.

Students will be able to gain qualifications including Level 1 VRQ Certificate in Introduction to Therapies and VTCT Entry Level 3 Certificate in Skills for Working Life (Beauty Therapy) by attending the salon one day a week.

Define Salons provide excellent, modern facilities for high standards of training in Beauty Therapy courses for students whilst also offering a realistic working environment for students to learn their communication and customer service skills whilst providing a service to the public.

The salon plans to open to the public early next year to offer various beauty treatments including manicures, facials and make up.

Alison Hardy, Executive Director for 14-19 Learning at Tresham Institute said;

"We are delighted to be working with Wellingborough schools again to offer the opportunity for vocational training in Beauty Therapy in addition to Hairdressing and Motor Vehicle. We hope that by offering students these choices they can explore the many options available to them for further training once they complete their GCSEs."
