English for Starters
This course will re-familiarise you with the alphabet letters and sounds and start reading short words.
Brush Up English
This programme will prepare you to take the City and Guilds Entry Level qualifications. You will learn about spelling personal key words and filling in forms. You will practice writing in sentences and paragraphs and using punctuation. You will have the opportunity to develop your reading skills.
Get On English
This course will progress you towards achieving the Level 1 and 2 Certificates in Adult Literacy (GCSE equivalent level qualifications). You will be introduced to a range of strategies to support spelling and punctuation. You will develop your reading skills and speed and have the opportunity to work on your writing skills.
Case Study
One of our Wellingborough learners wanted to become a plumber, but didn't have the necessary qualifications to enrol on a plumbing course. He had ADHD and, as a child, was unable to attend a school where GCSEs were offered. Following an initial assessment of his skills, he enrolled on "Brush up English" and "Brush up Maths" classes. He found that attending classes with adults was far less distracting, and much more appropriate than classes he attended as a child. His self confidence grew and he progressed very quickly in an environment where his personal learning style was taken into consideration. Having met the requirements for Entry Level 3 in both subjects, he is now ready to progress to Level 1 qualifications.
