Tresham Awards its VQ Heroes for 2009
02 Jul 2009
Tresham took part in the second VQ Day held on Wednesday 24th June 2009 by awarding its VQ Heroes for the 2008/09 academic year and is urging learners past and present to join the celebrations by signing up to the vocational qualifications roll call at http://www.vqday.org/.
VQ Day 2009, held on 24th June, is the second annual celebration of vocational achievement and recognises the many paths to success taken by learners of all ages. Millions of people gain a vocational qualification every year and the roll call is one way of marking that achievement.
VQ Day 2009 will be celebrated by a national event in London, as well as regional events held by colleges and learning providers around the country. Tresham will be taking part in VQ Day by holding a presentation ceremony for a small group of vocational learners who learn at the one of the colleges' campus across the county. Tresham's VQ Heroes are learners who have chosen to follow a vocational training option to achieve their goals. ...
"It is important that Tresham is building on the success of last years first ever VQ Day by holding a presentation ceremony to highlight how valuable vocational qualifications are and recognise the high quality skills they gain to enable them to progress from education into employment with the relevant skills. Vocational education is not just an option for underachievers, it is another option available for all and we are looking forward to celebrating this first ever national event as we do with A Level and GCSE results days."
Plans for the Day are being led by education foundation, Edge, and are supported by the wider education community including examination boards, employers' organisations, the Association of Colleges and the Association of Learning Providers.
CEO of Edge, Andy Powell, hopes that VQ Day 2009 will expand on the success of last year and go further still to raise awareness about the value of vocational qualifications:
"At Edge, we believe that there are many paths to success and that the UK's young people should be given the freedom to explore these paths without prejudice. Millions of learners take vocational qualifications every year that is a stepping stone to a brighter future - VQ Day is an opportunity to recognise this achievement and celebrate their success. We would urge people to log onto http://www.vqday.org/ to pledge their support and find out how they can get more involved."
