Engineering, Motorsport and Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are high quality, work-based training programmes for those who want to develop their prospects and career.   If you decide to take up an Apprenticeship, you will:

  • earn real wages
  • gain new qualifications
  • gain new knowledge and Key Skills

Apprenticeships are becoming more and more popular. Last year, there were more than 250,000 apprentices in England alone, training in over 200 different types of Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are open to anyone living in England and not taking part in full time education. Entry requirements are flexible because Apprenticeships aren't just based on academic achievement. Practical skills count and your interest in the area of work you've chosen. Employers value keenness to work and keenness to learn.

To get on an Apprenticeship, you'll have to show you're serious, committed, and aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and the company who would employ you. You also need to be happy to work as both part of a team and as an individual, and be able to use your own initiative.

Engineering Apprenticeships

You will work towards and NVQ in Engineering while earning a wage by mixing college based study and training within the workplace.  Typically, you will be required to attend college one day a week.  All apprenticeships can be taken at Intermediate Level (Level 2), while some can be taken at Advanced Level (Level 3).  Apprenticeships can be taken in Plant and Equipment Maintenance, Digital Ariel Installation, Boat Building, Welding, Production and Manufacturing Engineering and Electrical and Electronic servicing.

Motor Vehicle Apprenticeships

The Light Vehicle Maintenance Apprenticeship is offered at Level 2 and 3. Training is covered by a combination two 8-week sessions at one day per week, then four one week block spread throughout each year of training to support the Technical Certificate, Key Skills and practical skills.

Motorsport Apprenticeships

Motorsport apprenticeships are available at Level 2 as a Programme Led Apprenticeship and at Level 2 and 3 as an Employer Led Apprenticeship.  Visit the National College for Motorsport pages for more information.
