This course consists of two mandatory modules and an additional optional unit specialising in either engineering or electrical installation. You will cover basic skills and knowledge needed to enter engineering or the electical sectors. The course includes safe working practices, environmental considerations, bench fitting skills, working effectively as part of a team as well as awareness of the basic materials used in engineering. The engineering option covers basic turning techniques such as setting and operating a centre lathe and checking simple components for size. The electrical option will enable you to read simple diagrams and data sheets, identify basic electrical components and construct simple electrical circuits. Employability and Functional Skills will form part of your final qualifications.
