BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Fashion and Clothing

Tresham's course is aimed at open-minded, creative and artistic students who want to learn about the design process and different approaches to a broad range of multi-media including recycled materials, plastics, glass, paper, metals, ceramics, rubber, etc and develop their skills. This course is delivered from Tresham's Kettering campus in Northamptonshire.  

Students will develop their skills in drawing, colour application, sculptural textiles, multimedia approaches and print. Students will also learn how to contextualise work within art history, fashion art & design and contemporary practice.

The structure of the Diploma is an 18-unit qualification and consists of five ‘core' and ‘two' specialist units:

  • Drawing and Development
  • Historical and Contextual Understanding
  • Techniques and Processes
  • Ideas and Concepts
  • Visual Communication
  • Art and Design Exploration (externally assessed)
  • Art and Design Application (externally assessed).

The remaining eleven units are selected from a list of textiles specialist units which cover:

  • Design Methods
  • Design Principles
  • Professional Practice
  • Computers in Art and Design
  • Exploring Textiles
  • Surface Pattern
  • Paper and Printmaking in Textiles
  • Fabric manipulation
  • Feltmaking and Felting
  • Pattern Repeat
  • Textile Installation
  • Embroidered Textiles
  • 3D Sculptural Textiles
  • Pattern Development
  • Personal and Professional Development.

As well as key skills in communication and improving own learning and performance, problem solving and working with others.

Entry Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs at C or above including English and preferably Maths or equivalent OR
  • A BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design with a satisfactory reference and equivalent English and preferably Maths OR
  • A relevant equivalent Level 2 qualification with equivalent English and preferably Maths.

Entry is subject to a successful interview.  You will need to bring with you a portfolio of your work.

Assessment

Assignments are internally assessed throughout the two years and subject to external verification.

Progression

This course will prepare you for entry into employment within the creative sector or for further education on the higher level courses such as the Foundation Degree in Graphic Design at Tresham.
