Computing BTEC HNC/ HND

Entry Requirements

• A minimum of 1 A Level with GCSE at C or above in English and Maths or equivalent OR
• A BTEC National Diploma with a satisfactory reference and equivalent English and Maths OR
• A relevant equivalent Level 3 qualification with equivalent English and maths OR
• Appropriate industry experience

Entry is subject to successful interview. 

Content

This course is run in association with the University of Northampton.    You will develop your computing knowledge and technical skills to enable you to analyse needs, design, construct and implement computer based systems within a project team for a commercial, public sector or industrial environment.

HNC Students will complete the following units:

• Computer Systems
• Computer Communications
• Internet Technology
• Programming & Problem Solving
• Operating Systems
• Internet Programming
• Modern Networks
• Database Technology 1

HND students will complete the above plus the following units:

• Computer Mathematics
• Software Engineering 1
• Computing (General) Group Project 5
• Systems Development & Design

Assessment

There is a strong emphasis on work related skills, proficiency in oral and written communication and the ability to work effectively as a member of a team and these are assessed as part of a continual assessment through assignment process. Some modules are assessed through examination. To be successful 10-12 hours study outside class is necessary.

Progression

This course will lead to employment in a variety of computing areas. Students with appropriate achievement will have the opportunity to progress to the BSc (Hons) at university.
