Matthew Bold, 17 - Motorsport Race Technician
Matthew is studying for the Motorsport Race Technician apprenticeship and has been at the National College for Motorsport since September 2007. Matthew gained employment with Radical Motorsport in April 2008 and is able to put the skills learnt on the course into practice in the workplace straight away.
"I found out about the course and the National College for Motorsport on the internet as I had decided I wanted to study for a career in the industry after having run friends' karts for a number of years. I knew this was something I enjoyed so it seemed natural to progress onto cars.
The college has allowed me to have an insight into Motorsport and given me the chance to do something I love doing.
I have enjoyed the insight that you get into Motorsport here and the chance to go testing. We have also had the opportunity to use engineering machinery including the lathe. I have also gained experience using welding equipment and achieved qualifications for both.
The course has given me the chance to start a career within the Motorsport industry. The basic knowledge has been taught on the level two course and my work placement has allowed me to build on that knowledge. The level three course is expanding my knowledge on more involved aspects within Motorsport. The engineering and welding qualifications have allowed me to use these skills at race meetings and the factory and put them into practice from day one."
