Helping You Get Back to Work with Free Training

Over the past year, many people have found themselves out of work through no fault of their own. Tresham Business Solutions has three different of options available to help you return to the workplace:


Employability Skills Course

Who is eligible?

The course is open to anyone who is currently unemployed. The course is free of charge.

What does the course cover?

This course helps you develop the skills to get back to work, and covers:

  • CV writing, interviews and job applications
  • Time management
  • Communicating well at work
  • Health and Safety
  • How to improve your confidence

....and through this training you will also be able to achieve qualifications in both English and Maths.

How long is the course?

You will need to attend college for 20 hours per week for a maximum of 14 weeks. The course is offered at Tresham's Wellingborough and Corby campuses and through a partner company, Learn Today in Northampton.

Training Allowance

You will be entitled to a £10 per week training allowance in addition to your benefits. If you need to travel to any of the sites you will also be able to claim the majority of your travel expenses back.

How do I get on the course?

You will need to speak to your JobCentre Plus Advisor who will arrange an initial interview for you.

6 Month Offer

Who is eligible?

Anyone who has been unemployed for 6 months or more and is aged 19+. The courses are all free of charge.

What does the course cover?

All the courses run for fewer than 15 hours a week and will not affect your entitlements to benefits.

The course covers:

  • Areas such as Health and Safety, Accounting, Electrical and Security
  • Identifying your strengths and weaknesses
  • CV writing
  • Applying for jobs - in writing and online
  • Improving your communication and presentation skills
  • Improving your English and maths skills
  • Interview skills
  • Equality and diversity
How long is the course?

This depends on the area you have chosen to train in. You will be expected to undertake a minimum of 9 guided learning hours. Please speak to your Job Centre Plus advisor for further details.

How do I get on the course?

You will need to speak to your JobCentre Plus Advisor who will arrange an initial interview for you at Tresham.

Routes into Work - Young Persons' Guarantee

Who is eligible?

The course is open to 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for more than 39 weeks. All the courses are free of charge.

What does the course cover?

The training is to prepare you for jobs in retail, security, facilities management or tourism. You will receive specific training in your chosen sector as well as:

  • CV writing
  • Applying for jobs and interview skills
  • Improving your English and maths skills
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Health and Safety
How long is the course?

The course runs for 2 ½ weeks for around 6 hours a day.

Training Allowance

You will be entitled to a £15.38 per week training allowance in addition to your benefits. If you need to travel to any of the sites you will also be able to claim the majority of your travel expenses back.
