About our New Build

In August 2009 Tresham was announced as one of only 12 colleges in England - and the only college within the East Midlands region - to be granted approval for funding from the Learning and Skills Council and was, therefore, able to move forward with its redevelopment plans in Corby, Northamptonshire.  Contractors moved on site in November to start work on a new £36m campus to replace the dilapidated site in the centre of the town.

Tresham was granted planning permission in May 2009 by Corby Borough Council to build its new Corby campus on a former educational site used by Corby Community College. The 16 acre site will be a key building located on the eastern approach into the regenerated town centre and next to the new railway link which reopened in April 2009.

The brand new £36m campus will continue to offer subjects currently available in Corby such as Construction, Motor Vehicle and Hair and Beauty as well as additional provision in Sport, Business, Health and Care and employer led work.

The building has been designed by Bond Bryan and will consist of a front feature glazed block of coloured panels and a profiled surround with infill brick panels to ground level. A ‘stone' clad spine wall will separate the front black and atrium space for rear metal clad workshop and teaching areas.

Learning pods for each curriculum area will be built with a small library and computers for learners to gain the right information they need to be successful.

The extra space available to the college provides an opportunity to develop Higher Education provision at the Corby campus alongside developments at the Kettering and Wellingborough campuses.

Tresham's Principal, Mark Silverman said:

"These redevelopment plans are great news fort he people of North Northamptonshire as the new campus will provide a modern, state of the art facility for people to learn within and gain skills so they are work- ready. The new campus, along with our sustained focus on raising quality and standards within the college will allow Tresham to become truly outstanding which is good news for North Northamptonshire."

Phil Hope, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire said:

"This is wonderful news for Corby and will provide a state of the art centre for education and training. This will benefit young people, adults and the local community. It also contributes to the regeneration of the town, allowing the current town centre site to be redeveloped as well as bringing much needed jobs in construction.

A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring that Tresham's Corby campus was one of only 12 colleges in the country to have secured in this round, the funding for new buildings. I would like to thank in particular, Tresham, Northamptonshire County Council, Corby Borough Council and North Northants Development Corporation for their contributions in achieving this."

Simon Evans, Chief Executive of North Northants Development Company said:

"The go-ahead for the Corby campus is fantastic news for residents and local business and I must congratulate Tresham and all partners that helped to make such a strong case for the new college.

Increased access to modern education facilities is vital to the growth and prosperity of North Northamptonshire."
